Listen to this week’s message:
As John Ruskin said, “When love and skill work together, expect a masterpiece.”
How aligned are you? I’m very good at financial modeling but I don’t want to spend my time in front of an Excel spreadsheet. I also love singing, but I’m not going to be performing at Carnegie Hall any time soon. Just because you love something doesn’t mean you’ll be instantly good at it, and just because you’re adept at something doesn’t mean you absolutely love it. To achieve great success and fulfillment, marry love and skill. I think of longtime friend, jazz great Wynton Marsalis. He lives music and is extraordinarily talented. Even to this day, after producing over 80 records and winning nine Grammy Awards, he practices breath techniques to be a better trumpet player and is always learning. I’ve even gotten him on a yoga mat. Although I have been teaching yoga for almost 15 years, I still take trainings and study with the masters. My own yoga teacher/mentor 96-year-old Tao Porchon-Lynch takes dance lessons multiple times a week to get better for ballroom competitions and recently wowed the judges on America’s Got Talent. It’s certainly okay to do something just for the fun of it even if you’re clearly a novice. That’s how you remain open to new things and grow as a person. However, the ultimate gratification is to perfect a passion and possibly even turn purpose into profit.
Until next time, remember – it’s your divine life, live it to the fullest. The power is in your hands!
With Purpose & Power,
Terri
