THE BUZZ…

On Saturday, February 20th, 2010, I led a a workshop exploring the topic “No More Drama — Managing Stress Before It Manages Me” for the Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral of New York. It was sponsored by their Women’s Health Ministry which is led by the Co-Pastor, Rev. Dr. Elaine McCollins-Flake. In addition to my signature breathing and meditation techniques, I introduced a new exercise called “Unload and Recharge – Rapid Fire.” I had the women pair up and take 30 seconds each to vent about something that stressed them out. The job of the partner was to simply listen without interrupting. After uploading, each person had another 30 seconds to recharge by sharing something for which she was really grateful. I’ve done variations of this exercise before – this time, though I made it very short (hence “rapid fire”). The ladies really enjoyed it. Some of the comments during the feedback were: “It was nice to be heard.” “I had more things to be grateful for than to complain about!” “The balance between venting and then being grateful really put things in perspective.” If you’ve had a tough day, I really recommend this technique. Try it and let me know how it goes!
