Women & Power Conference at Omega
THE BUZZ: From September 21st through 23rd, 2012, I attended the Women & Power Conference at Omega’s Rhinebeck, NY campus. It was a gathering of dynamic women from various sectors – from playwright Eve Ensler and actress Sally Field to media powerhouse Pat Mitchell and Planned Parenthood Federation President Cecile Richards. I was super impressed by Majora Carter’s presentation of her work on sustainable development in the Bronx. I knew of her work but to hear her walk through it was wonderful.

The Power of… FREEDOM
FREEDOM. How free are you? Is your freedom dependent on someone else? What are your divine rights? When I was in China in 2006 I was struck by the display of prosperity in places like Shanghai, with its large LED screens touting the latest fashions and movies. It was like New York’s Times Square on steroids.
What do you care about?
KEY ISSUES… How often do you think about clean water or climate change? Could you live on $1 a day? According to UNICEF, 25,000 children die each day due to poverty. There are 27 million people enslaved around the world due to human trafficking. Approximately, 1.1 billion people in developing countries have inadequate access to…
The Power of… ONE
ONE. Can one person change the world? What will be your legacy? Whenever anyone says, “What can I do? I’m only one person,” I remind them of Gandhi’s insistence that personal change and the ability to bring about social change are linked. It starts at home with you. That is the essence of his often repeated quote: “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” For him, it wasn’t a trite statement; it was a responsibility of the living. The PWR – Purpose With Results philosophy is based on discovering your own Life Purpose and then inspiring others through it.
Focus on… Jordan
PERSONAL IMPRESSIONS: I made my first trip to Jordan in May 2009 for the World Economic Forum on the Middle East and the Young Global Leader Summit. Despite the suicide bomb attacks in 2005 (for which Al-Qaeda in Iraq claimed responsibility), Jordan is one of the most peaceful countries in the region.
World Economic Forum on Latin America
From April 13th through April 17th, 2009, I participated in the World Economic Forum on Latin America in Rio de Janiero, Brazil. The Summit brought together some of the world’s top policy and decision makers to discuss that region and global challenges. I also attended a special Young Global Leaders gathering. President Lula of Brazil was there and I had a “Meet the Leader” session with President Alvaro Uribe of Colombia.
