Do you want to lower your food bill and help local farmers? Join a CSA - Community Supported Agriculture. People buy shares in a farm and, in return, enjoy a share of the farm's produce for most of the year. This enables the farmers to thrive and subscribers to get an incredible buy on organic fruits and vegetables. Some farms even offer flowers, eggs, milk and coffee. A CSA season typically runs from late spring through early fall. A CSA in the Northeast might charge for a full share around $400 for nearly six months of produce. Some CSAs support low-income membership through sliding scale shares, scholarship funds, subsidized shares and fundraising benefits.
