Tao Porchon-Lynch Turns 101!

Yoga Master Tao Porchon-Lynch in Sedona - 2018

August 14, 2019 – Historical icon, yoga master and award-winning author Tao Porchon-Lynch turned 101 on August 13, 2019 and as usual birthday calls and notes came in from around the world. Most notable was a surprise message from Emmy and Golden Globe-winning actress and icon Angie Dickinson wishing Tao “a very Happy 101st Birthday.” Angie’s most popular work included Rio Grande, Big Bad Mama, Police Woman and Dressed To Kill. At 87 years old, Angie remains an inspiration so it was a delight to get well wishes from her for Tao. It underscores the Law of Attraction: good energy attracts good energy!

The Three Commitments

Sometimes the weight of life can seem heavy. You can either be crushed by it or learn how to carry the load. In the fall of 2016, I was traveling non-stop for my work with yoga master Tao Porchon-Lynch. At now almost 100 years old, she shows us how to live with vitality regardless of age. Dancing Light, the book we co-wrote (along with my mom Janie Sykes-Kennedy) won ten awards, and then Tao and I were featured in Athleta’s Power of She campaign. It’s been an exciting time. However, I’ve been experiencing a very strange dichotomy. In between amplifying Tao’s light, I have been fighting extreme darkness in the sunny state of Florida.

Filming of Arun Gandhi and Tao Porchon-Lynch

96-year-old Tao Porchon-Lynch and 81-year-old Arun Gandhi, July 9, 2015

On Thursday, July 9th, 2015, I had the honor of interviewing Mahatma Gandhi’s grandson, 81-year-old Arun Gandhi, alongside my dear teacher 96-year-old Tao Porchon-Lynch. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience to be in the presence of two people who had first-hand experiences with the “great soul”, Mohandas Gandhi. Both Arun and Tao have a philosophical lineage that is similar–influenced by Swami Vivekananda, Sri Aurobindo and Mohandas Gandhi. Yet, they grew up in very different environments.
