Powerful books, reports, movies, DVDs and more!

Three Magic Words

Three Magic Words

BOOK: Three Magic Words, by U.S. Andersen – This book gets to the heart of the questions which pull at the human soul, and is one of the early self-help books teaching about the power of Thought in the same vein as The Science of Mind. A relatively short read, it is a good introduction to the concept of the law of attraction.

Meditation in Action

Meditation in Action

BOOK: Meditation in Action, by Chögyam Trungpa – This is a classic on Buddhist meditation by Tibetan master Chögyam Trungpa. He teaches that meditation is based on trying to see what is, rather than trying to achieve a higher mental or physical state. In a very short read, Trungpa describes the life of the Buddha in very simple terms, emphasizing that, like the Buddha, we must find the truth for ourselves, rather than following someone else’s example.

The Alchemist

The Alchemist

BOOK: The Alchemist, by Paulo Coelho – This enchanting story about a shepherd boy’s travels in search of a buried treasure can uncover the treasure within you! It is powerful in its simplicity and a very easy read. This is one of the books I give new clients to spark their minds and hearts.

Corações Sujos (Dirty Hearts)

Dirty Hearts

FILM: Corações Sujos (Dirty Hearts) – On Friday, July 13th, 2012, I went to the U.S. premiere of Corações Sujos (Dirty Hearts) at the Museum of Modern Art. It was a part of the 10th annual Premiere Brazil! festival. Based on the novel by Fernando Morais, the film was directed by Brazilian filmmaker Vicente Amorim. One of the producers was Oliver Kwon, a Harvard Business School classmate.

Gandhi (1982)

Gandhi

FILM: Gandhi (1982) – I very much enjoyed Sir Richard Attenborough’s 1982 multiple-Oscar winning film on Gandhi which starred Ben Kingsley, Candice Bergen, Martin Sheen, Edward Fox, Trever Howard and John Gielgud.

Treat Yourself to Life

Treat Yourself to Life

BOOK: Treat Yourself to Life, by Raymond Charles Barker – This little book was one of the classic texts in my mom’s library (I actually still have her original copy). It explains how, through spiritual mind treatment, you can deliberately impress the subconscious with a creative idea so that it can manifest.

The Prophet

The Prophet

BOOK: The Prophet, by Kahlil Gibran – Originally published in 1923, The Prophet is a beautiful treatise on life. Gibran’s words are profound and divine, revealing him to be the true prophet! His thoughts on love are probably the most quoted for wedding vows.

The God Memorandum

The God Memorandum

BOOK: The God Memorandum, by Og Mandino – This little book is a treasure by one of my favorite authors. Just 96 pages, it is packed with inspiration. In his signature poetic style, Og Mandino offers encouragement and hope for those who may be lacking self-esteem or motivation.

Tao Te Ching

Tao Te Ching

BOOK: Tao Te Ching, by Lao Tsu, Translation by Gia-Fu Feng and Jane English – The Tao Te Ching, which can be translated as “The Book of the Way and its Virtue,” is the Chinese classic text attributed to Lao Tsu (or Lao Tzu). Although it may seem very abstract, Taoism is actually quite practical.

Emerson’s Essays

Emerson's Essays

BOOK: Emerson’s Essays, by Ralph Waldo Emerson – My mom gave me Emerson’s Essays when I was a teenager. I’m just realizing how much of an influence it’s had on my own writing in content and form. Emerson was an American orator, poet, and leader of the Transcendentalist movement in the early nineteenth century.
