Sing For Hope
May 25, 2016– I had a wonderful time getting a behind-the-scenes look at Sing for Hope with their founders Monica Yunus (fellow Young Global Leader) and Camille Zamora. The organization brings music and the arts to everyday people. A group of NY-based Young Global Leaders were able to see the beautifully painted pianos before they hit the streets. We also received a private musical performance which was tremendous!
Wainwright House Spring Luncheon
May 19, 2016– It was a perfect day for the Spring Luncheon at the beautiful Wainwright House in Rye, New York. 97-year-old yoga master Tao Porchon-Lynch was one of the honorees for their annual fundraising event. Wainwright House is the oldest non-profit, non-sectarian holistic learning center in the United States. Their mission is to inspire greater understanding through body, mind, spirit and community. Teachers have included Thomas Berry, Joan Borysenko, Rosalyn Bruyere, Ralph Bunche, Joseph Campbell, Deepak Chopra, Ram Dass, Mathew Fox, Michael Harner, Jean Houston, Aldous Huxley, Craig Junjulus, Dolores Krieger, Thomas Moore, Bernie Siegel, Sir Laurens Van Der Post, and Roger Woolger, to name but a few. Early supporters included Dwight Eisenhower, J.C. Penney, and John D. Rockefeller.
Receiving IPPY Award in Chicago
May 10, 2016– 97-year-old yoga master Tao Porchon-Lynch can add another accolade to her name, “award-winning author,” demonstrating once again that it is never too late to realize your dreams. She graced the windy city of Chicago to receive a 2016 IPPY Award for her book, Dancing Light: The Spiritual Side of Being Through the Eyes of a Modern Yoga Master. The ceremony took place on the 99th floor Skydeck of the Willis Tower. As a co-author I was delighted to join Tao along with my mother, Columbia University-trained journalist Janie Sykes Kennedy. We came together as three generations of women to tell the story of one incredible woman.

Wellesley College Harambee House 45th Anniversary Celebration
I was delighted to attend the Harambee House 45th Anniversary Celebration at Wellesley College from April 9-10, 2016 with dear friend and fellow Wellesley alum Dr. Sonia Robena Banks (Class of ’84). Harambee House was established on Wellesley’s campus in 1970, with the goal of creating a home and cultural center for students of African descent. This weekend honored this significant historical milestone by bringing together students, accepted students, alumnae, faculty, and staff to celebrate.
