May 3, 2016 – Art is more than paint on a canvas. It can be a soul-stirring experience. On a rainy Tuesday evening in New York I was delighted to enjoy the sun-drenched vibrant colors of Sky Descending: Texas Landscapes by Gay Gaddis, curated by Rebecca Michelman and presented at The Curator Gallery.

The exhibition features over 20 landscape paintings that explore the changing weather in the Texas hills. Painted outside en plein air, Gay wears knee-high boots to protect herself from rattlesnake bites and often faces Nature’s elements, such as driving rain and scorching sun, to capture the moment. Her husband handcrafts the frames. The result is a collection of mesmerizing vistas that transport you to her Double Heart Ranch, a working Texas Longhorn ranch and family retreat. Her art is not the only thing that is impressive. Gay is also CEO and Founder of T3, the largest woman-owned independent advertising agency in the country. That’s Power Living!

The Curator Gallery, by The High Line on 520 West 23rd Street, is the “labor of love” of Ann Moore, former chairman and chief executive officer of Time Inc. and one of Fortune’s 50 Most Powerful Women in Business. She opened the space to give exposure to lesser-known artists and to get Millennials excited about art. The idea came while visiting her son in San Francisco. She noticed that he and his engineer friends lived in spaces “with nothing on the walls.” Like a force of Nature, she is now inspiring the young and successful set in New York to enjoy art in their homes.

The evening’s event was hosted by Womensphere and fellow Young Global Leader Analisa Balares. A few Womensphere Global Advisory Board Members were in attendance in addition to Gay, including Michael Puarugganan (Dean of Science at NYU) and Loreen Arbus (Philanthropist, Loreen Arbus Foundation, Women Moving Millions).
