On Monday, April 27, 2015, the JCC Mid-Westchester in Scarsdale, New York hosted “An Evening with Tao Porchon-Lynch.” It was a conversation with 96-year-old yoga master Tao Porchon-Lynch about her incredible life and inspirational philosophy moderated by Teresa Kay-Aba Kennedy – Harvard-trained thought leader and co-author of Tao’s new memoir, Dancing Light: The Spiritual Side of Being Through the Eyes of a Modern Yoga Master. The other co-author is Columbia University-trained journalist Janie Sykes-Kennedy.
As a preview to Tao’s memoir, Tao shared stories from her journey including her experiences with Mahatma Gandhi on the 1930 Salt March, her work helping Jews escape the Nazis as a French Resistance fighter and her friendships with icons such as Marlene Dietrich and Noël Coward. The audience of about 70 people was treated to insights on a wide range of topics from longevity to handling disappointments. They were enthralled by Tao’s presence as well as the slideshow of images that accompanied the talk.
In addition to sharing her wisdom and teachings around the world, Tao has taught yoga at the JCC in Mid-Westchester for 32 years. Tao taught a yoga class at the JCC right before the talk and then walked in with her signature glamour and high heels!
