Teresa Kay-Aba Kennedy, Tao Porchon-Lynch, Janie Sykes-Kennedy at Tao’s 96th birthday party
THE BUZZ: Dancing, yogis, delicious Indian food and yoga master Tao Porchon-Lynch. That is sure to be a good party! On Sunday, August 10th, 2014, my mom and I attended Tao’s 96th Birthday bash at the wonderful Taj Palace Restaurant in White Plains, NY. I rushed back from Martha’s Vineyard and came straight from the airport to be there.
Tao’s party has become an annual tradition. So many people who have been touched by her life come out to celebrate her. We are certainly grateful to be graced by her presence another year. Tao looked amazing in her two (of course, she had a dress change) fabulous dresses. Her biggest surprise was the appearance of her two dance partners, Hayk Balasanyanand and Vard Margaryan. The smile on her face was end to end.
There were many tributes. Valerie Romanoff performed a revised vision of the song she wrote for Tao. Johanna Rajendran wrote a beautiful piece on her daughter Natasha Tao and her namesake Tao. Tao also received an honor from a martial artist for her inspiration. Well deserved! Tao also gave me and my mom a special mention for our work on her biography. It’s almost done – 90,000 words and counting!! A big thank you to Joyce Pines for making this a wonderful event.
