8th Annual Black Enterprise Women of Power Summit

Sisters Sheila and Terri Kennedy at BE Women of Power Summit 2013

THE BUZZ: On February 28th and March 2nd, 2013, I spoke at the 8th Annual Black Enterprise Women of Power Summit at the beautiful Waldorf Astoria in Orlando, Florida. I’ve spoken at the Black Enterprise Entrepreneur’s Conference and have been featured in the magazine, but this was the first time being involved in this Summit.

The event catered to executive women of color and provided an opportunity to connect, and get expert advice from today’s leading female executives and decision makers. Featured speakers included powerhouses such as Cathy Hughes, Founder & Chairperson of TV One, Ursula Burns, Chairman & CEO of Xerox, and Judy Smith, Founder & President of the crisis management firm Smith & Co and Co-Executive Producer of ABC’s hit series Scandal (the show is based on her work).

Given the Summit’s theme of ‘Your Power – Claim it, Own it, Live it!,” I led the charge for the day each morning offering my signature Power Living inspiration along with centering techniques to help the women set their intentions for the day and be focused on creating personal success. It was the first time Black Enterprise had included something like it in the event and it was very well received.

I must thank Sonia Alleyne, Multimedia Editorial Director and Co-Editorial Director of the Women of Power Summit for having the insight to include the segment, and Veronica Buapim, Events Production Coordinator, for being the master of logistics. I was also delighted that my sister, Sheila Kennedy, was able to join me. If you’re looking for inspiration and practical advice to achieve your goals, I highly recommend this conference.

Check out our video coverage of the event, including advice from some of the superstar speakers.
