THE BUZZ…

From October 6th through 8th, 2009, I participated in the YGL U.S. Policy Roundtable in Washington, DC organized by the World Economic Forum. I was at the White House and State Department and received U.S. policy briefings from senior administration officials including The Honorable Hillary Rodham Clinton, Ambassador Elizabeth Bagley, Under Secretary William J. Burns, Secretary Timothy Geithner, Dr. Larry Summers, and Peter Orszag from the Office of Management and Budget, among others. We also spent time at the National Geographic Society Headquarters where we had a discussion with Nancy Sutley, Chair of the White House Council on Environmental Quality, and Rajiv Shah, the Undersecretary for Research, Education and Economics for the US Department of Agriculture. The very engaging David Rubenstein of The Carlyle Group hosted dinner for us at the National Gallery of Art and told us the wonderful story of how he purchased the Magna Carta of 1297 for a mere $21.3 million! He has been a very gracious sponsor of a lot of the YGL activities. These pictures are from the Newseum where we had an intimate Q&A discussion with David Gregory, moderator of “Meet the Press” and Betsy Fischer, the Executive Producer and fellow YGL. Thank you to another fellow YGL Dina Powell at Goldman Sachs for helping to organize it all!
